Compromise

So, this is something that my friend spoke about, well mention sorta. This is one thing that absolutely kills all of our Christian's walks. What I am going to talk about is one simple word, Compromise. Now Compromise is something that has been great in some events in the past. Compromise has settled many debates and has given us some specific rights that we have today in the United States. But sometimes Compromise in our Christian walk is not always good for us. And just like Mark Hall says in his newest CD, "The Alter and The Door" we find ourselves in a slow fade. So, like I said, Compromise is a good thing ….in some cases. Compromise can lead to ending arguments, to settling differences; compromise sometimes will bring peace. But at the same time Compromise is a bad thing that can weaken your relationship with Christ. So, I know this is something that I struggle with everyday and I know this is something that every Christian struggles with also. Every Christian, sometime in their spiritual walk, struggles with compromises. A few notes back I wrote a note on how we Christians lose the commitment we make when we are on our mountain peaks and we later find ourselves in the valley wondering what happen and how did we get here. Almost every time you can look back on how you got in that valley and you can answer that question of "How did I get here?" with one word….Compromise. We get into a situation and Satan comes in to play and gets in our head and tells us things like… "You don't need to go read your Bible"….. "You can look at these things"….. "You can say these things". Satan comes in to our minds and compromises with us! We make certain commitments and as time goes on, we loosen up on these commitments and make excuses. For example, you leave a Christian camp or revival and you are completely on fire for God and you make commitments saying that you are no longer going to curse, you are no longer going to lust after the opposite sex, and you are going to go spread God's word. So, you start out doing exactly what you set out to do and then over time you start to slip up. Over time, you compromise and you start to curse every now and then, and you start back lusting…just slightly though, and you aren't really talking about God unless someone else brings Him up. And then a little more time goes by and you are right where you used to be, you are right back in the valley you swore to get out of and stay out of. This is something that has happened to us all. We decide that it is okay not to read your Bible just one night, it is okay just to curse when it makes a funny joke. We compromise with this world …we compromise with Satan. This is something that Satan excels in! If you have ever noticed, all these things that you end up losing focus on, you lose them over a good amount of time. You never lose those commitments on one day. It is a slow fade. In 1 Corinthians 10:12 it says this: (NLT) If you think you are standing strong, be careful for you, too, may fall into the same sin So I tell you this, do not lose focus on those commitments that you set. Keep those commitments dear to your heart and do not let anyone or anything change those goals in any way, no matter how big or how small. Make sure that you are not compromising with anything that will take you away from keeping those goals you set out to keep. Make sure that you are standing on solid rock and not sinking in the sinking sand of compromise.
